West Virginia Weekend

Some family and friends went to the New River Gorge area for a second year in a row to camp/bike/hike/etc.  It was AWESOME!  The whole area is beautiful.  Almost heaven?  Accurate.  We again stayed at the Arrowhead Bike Farm which is right near many of the biking trail systems.  Our group did the Arrowhead Trails.

We had some experienced, die hard mountain bikers, the rest of us beginners.  Some were terrified (ahem ME!!!).  I have a quote for adventures such as this: "this is not Kennywood".  Oddly enough I usually say that for things I do in West Virginia.

This year a cousin and I ventured down to the town, unfortunately, a little too late.  A lot of the stores closed around 4 or 5 so the only eatery we found was the famous Pies and Pints with a long wait.  We opted to just walk around and head back to the awesome food joint at the campground that serves brats and beer of all varieties.

What are the best smells in the world?  The head of a Cabbage Patch preemie, garlic sautéing in olive oil, and campfires.  Sigh.  Worth repeating.

The Cathedral Cafe in Fayetteville, West Virginia
I brought my husband's small, non-electric percolator and used it on a butane stove to make numerous cups of coffee which were enjoyed around the campfire at odd hours of the day and night.  I can live on coffee and salted almonds.

Awesome coffee, great cause #Groundsandhounds

After escaping an ER visit on Arrowhead Trails, we regrouped and went to the Long Point Trail where you can bike to a point where you must park your bike and hike the remainder of the way to see this....
